Ramases : Cult Rock Band of Seventies

If there ever had to be a list of the most eclectic musicians/rock groups, then Ramases would be a definite contender. Very little is known about this enigmatic person, and very little in terms of music was ever produced. However, his two albums, especially the first one, have built up a form of cult following within progressive rock circles.

Born in the late thirties, in Sheffield, England, Martin Raphael worked as a PT instructor in the army after serving a conscription period and after that started a lucrative business as a central heating salesman in Scotland. One day, whilst in his car he claimed to have had a vision from the Egyptian Pharaoh god Ramases, who informed him that he was actually the re-incarnation of this deity and that his duty on earth was to inform the world the truth about the universe.

He has created two cult albums making them as the superb example of space/folk/rock music. Space Hymns and Glass Top Coffin.

Not As Good As The Book / The Tangent

Impressive ! The masterpiece is divided in 2 Cd's.

The complexities of the composition are similar to Yes albums. I think The Tangent is a true progressive band that has shaped the progressive rock music combining the sounds of 70s and modern music. Based strongly on the best practises of symphonic rock this music flows from a mood to another smoothly and creates long enjoyable passages of great instrumental and sung music. There are elements of folk, etnic and jazz blended in a way never before in an eclectic way.

01011001 flows perfectly. I feel like I'm listening to a true concept album this time.
Also, the vocalists are amazing. As much as James Labrie is a great talent, the mix of artists on this album blows the Human Equation away. Any fans of Evergrey, Pain of Salvation, etc. should check it out one of the best released progressive metal albums of 2008

Trisector / Van Der Graaf Generator

Good composition, thoughtful lyrics and short tunes make Trisector work. Hammill, Banton and Evans created a decent effort.

The Bedlam in Goliath / Mars Volta

It's not possible to divide this album into sections.. the tracks seem to flow into one another. Most of the album is composed of heavy hard-hitters like the opening track "Aberinkula" and "Goliath", but there are also deviations on this formula that make the album all the more interesting.

The song "Tourniquet Man" will take listeners by surprise after listening to louder tracks 1-5, and the track "Soothsayer" represents the album cover art the best in that it adds a Middle Eastern flavor to The Mars Volta's already unique style of music.

Spiroygra had released in 1973 one of the cult albums all times. Widely regarded today as one of the great classics of British 'acid folk', copies of this album are rare and expensive today, almost impossible to acquire.

Robert Moog : Great Pioneer of Today's Music

Robert Moog developed his ideas for an electronic instrument by starting out in 1961 building and selling Theremin kits and absorbing ideas about transistorised modular synthesisers from the German designer Harald Bode.

After publishing an article for the January 1961 issue of the magazine 'Electronics World', Moog sold around a 1000 Theremin kits from 1961 to 63 out of a three room apartment. Eventually he decided to begin producing instruments of his own design. After toying with the idea of a portable guitar amplifier, Moog turned to the synthesiser.

Whilst attending a convention in the winter of '63, Moog was introduced to the idea of building new circuits that would be capable of producing sound. In September 1964 he was invited to exhibit his circuits at the Audio Engineering Society Convention. Shortly afterwards in 1964 Moog begin to manufacture electronic music synthesisers. Moog's synthesisers were designed in collaboration with the composers Herbert A. Deutsch, and Walter (later Wendy) Carlos.

After the success of Carlos's album "Switched on Bach", entirely recorded using Moog synthesisers, Moog's instruments made the first leap from the electronic avant garde, into commercial popular music. The Beatles bought one, as did Mick Jagger who bought a hugely expensive modular Moog in 1967 (unfortunately this instruments was only used once, as a prop on a film set and was later sold to the German experimentalist rockers, Tangerine Dream).

Though setting a future standard for analogue synthesiser, the Moog Synthesiser Company did not survive the decade, larger companies such as Arp and Roland developed Moog's protoypes into more sophisticated and cost effective instruments. king crimson for a dark moscow weekend

rainy gloomy weekends are usual in moscow in the middle of june. so this summer is not an exception at all.. while coding my new site for hours (i will surely link there soon here), i have injected to my blood pure king crimson dark notes.

i started my blog at last. i will share what i have listened daily to enjoy life with you and ready to hear yours. i am turkish in native (from istanbul), living in moscow for 5 years already. eventhough my russian language level increased by the time my english has fallen considerably in these years. anyway, i will try..

if you like progressive rock, 70s rock, metal etc, i think we are on the same path. but i dont restrict myself only to them.
